Is it illigal to ask people to donate to you?

so i wouldnt think so but since there are so many strange laws i wanted to ask. I live in illinois and my friend and i want to start our own little charity where we go around asking people to donate money, clothes, or food to us and then we would go to charities such as the food pantry to give it to them.
