Maternity ward jobs, what training required?

I have 2 children, 4 and 2 years and im 23 years, my 4 year old is in school whilst my 2 year old is in nursery 2 mornings a week. I want to have a career on a maternity ward but being that i have no qualifications and are older than some i didn't no whether it was poss. I would like to work with mums and newborns but don't think i could deliver as i wouldn't like that much responsibility (maybe later!) What sort of training would i need to do? how many years would it take? what sort of jobs are there on wards? Any help would be great!!! I also live in devon, uk.
