Why do Hatians speak Creole and not French?

The Ha�tians DO speak an intelligible French as their basic, vernacular and primary language. BUT, indeed they also have a kind of patois (just as every other French former colonies in Caribbean) and another form of French, the Creole language, wich was first made to make them not understood by their masters when they were still slaves.
