Is it better to have an aviation or maritime rate in the coast guard?

I was thinking of becoming boatswains mate, because I really like ships and water, but I also want to become an aerospace engineer so I thought an aviation rate would be good too. Which one is more in demand, more fun, and has greater rewards? Also, are the aviation rates as hands on as the maritime ones. Like, being a boatswains mate you are always patrolling and doing something to help, but are doing the same if you had an aviation rate? thanks
