How do i save effects on a pod xt live floor pedal?

I just got a pod xt live floor pedal and i like some effects and i want to save them to A B C D and the blank pedals. I don't want to change tweaks or anything i just want to ign certain effects to certain pedals. Also what is a channel memory? How does it work? please include lots of details. Thank you guys so much im new to this stuff.
