Any one know about the renault megane?

I have a renault megane 2000 model right hand drive, recently this problem popped up,the lights that would indicate what gear it Is in would disappear and I am unable to change gear from park to drive its as though the car is not switched on, I left it overnight and it returned to normal only to go again! Could this be a relay problem? Can someone shed some light on this? Because the electricians in Trinidad & Tobago are not renault savvy!
